Allium karataviense, commonly known as an Ornamental Onion, has relatively large spherical clusters of light pink blooms that are produced on short stems in early summer. The plant only stands between 4 inches and 10 inches tall. Despite the small stature, Allium karataviense stands out due to its very wide blueish-green leaves that anchor the plant and make a great addition to the front of a border. The unique leaf adds an additional layer of texture and depth to any planting scheme.Â
Allium karataviense prefers full sun, but can take light shade and prefer well-drained soil. It is important that the plants do not sit wet all winter long. The plants should be deadheaded in order to maintain bulb vigor and the stems can be dried and preserved for floral arrangements.Â
