Belamcanda chinensis ‘Hello Yellow’ produces compact clumps of bright green, sword-like leaves that give rise to branched stems of bright yellow, star-shaped blooms in late summer. Unlike most Belamcanda, ‘Hello Yellow’ flowers are not spotted. Belamcanda is also known as Blackberry Lily because the seed heads open to reveal clusters of black seeds that resemble blackberries. This is a rhizomatous perennial that will also self sow.
Botanical authorities have changed the botanical name of this Asian perennial to Iris domestica. It is sometimes called Leopard Lily in reference to the blooms, which are typically spotted.
Belamcanda chinensis ‘Hello Yellow’ prefers full sun to light shade and average, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.
