Calylophus ‘Prairie Lode’ produces orange buds that open to sulfur-yellow flowers from April to November. Commonly known as Sun Drops, this Rare Roots’ favorite has wiry stems and small green leaves. Calylophus ‘Prairie Lode’ spreads its stems up to 24″ staying close to the ground, but not rooting in. ‘Prairie Lode’ is a variety of Calylophus serrulatus, which is native to much of central Canada and the U.S.
This perennial makes a great ground cover for full sun and well-drained soil. It tolerates dry and poor soils. Prune the stems back hard to the central crown in the spring to maintain good form.
